LM’s joint venture team is well advanced in delivering HS2’s phase one enabling works programme in the West Midlands.
Working collaboratively with the project team, we’re providing a professional and dynamic service, using our considerable experience in planning, design, liaison with key stakeholder and local communities, and the utilisation of the latest construction methodology in order to deliver efficient and safe delivery of planned works.
We’re seeking to transform the way the UK builds bridges, with an innovative modular solution where major components have been manufactured offsite at our factory in Worksop. These have been delivered to site, where they are being positioned and will deliver several new structures, including a 60m single span bridge over the M42 motorway near Birmingham Airport.
Supported by a network of Tier 2 contractors, our work to date has also included extensive archaeological programmes, demolition, site and vegetation clearance, tree planting, and new ecological habitat creation.
Activity on worksites is important, but only part of the story. Long before the workforce and machinery start work to prepare the route, detailed planning and consultation are vital with all affected parties in order to ensure important details such as vehicle numbers and access routes, workforce numbers, hours of work, acceptable noise and dust parameters, and other important details, have been considered, planned for, and if necessary, mitigated.
Acknowledging our responsibilities in protecting the world around us, our ecology and archaeology advisors also work with stakeholders to ensure that studies and measurements are made, and appropriate action taken.
We're aiming wherever possible to minimise time on site and disruption to local communities. We’re also working with educational advisors to support the engagement of schools and colleges, with the aim of increasing interest in science and engineering topics as the project develops.
